The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a voucher-based grant scheme from the Government, administered by Ofgem.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a voucher-based grant scheme from the Government, administered by Ofgem, which will be available for customers with eligible installations that have been commissioned on or after April 1st, 2022.

The scheme aims to reduce the capital cost of installing renewable heating technologies for domestic customers by providing a one-off voucher payment towards the overall cost of an installation.

The scheme will be open for applications for 3 years from April 2022, and it is possible to apply for a voucher for an eligible installation at any point during this period. The BUS application process is managed by the installer and HP2G would be responsible for applying for the voucher on your behalf. Air source heat pump installs will be eligible for a voucher valued at £5,000 valid for 3 months. If the installations are not completed and commissioned in this timeframe, it will not be possible to extend the voucher. However, it will be easy to reapply. Installations eligible for the voucher are projects that meet the following criteria:

  • Air source heat pump, ground source heat pump or biomass boiler (only in off-gas, rural areas).
  • Installation commissioning date after 1st April 2022.
  • Installation must provide full space heating and hot water requirements. Your installation will not be eligible if a boiler is used as back-up or top-up heating.
  • The install must be designed and commissioned by an MCS certified company.
  • No loft or cavity wall insulation advisories on the property EPC or evidence the advisories have been resolved prior to redeeming the voucher. Properties built subject to the latest building regulations do not require an EPC.
